RESISTANCE BANDS — MOBILITY AND FUNCTIONAL FITNESS
Resistance bands are an essential part of any regular workout schedule. Stretching with bands, when focused, strategic, and done regularly can dramatically enhance your overall posture, athleticism, and performance during workouts. For reference, the exercise and mobility movements in this article will cover the 41'’ loop resistance bands.
Certain movements and stretches are best done with the assistance of someone knowledgeable and experienced, once you begin mapping & experiencing the neuromuscular stimulus, then you can incorporate more complex banded stretches and mobility movements.
Range of Motion or ROM
Range of motion is your ability to move to a point of resistance in a certain plane of motion, determining this along with balance testing will give you a lot of insights into postural deviations and muscular imbalances. Armed with this knowledge, you can begin to address the areas that have shown compensation or over-active muscle groups.
Certain movements will require assistance from a personal trainer, but you can begin to incorporate these flexibility and mobility movements into your workout routine pretty easily. The results will speak for themselves, you will notice a difference within about two to three weeks, remain consistent and patient with yourself.
Key areas to focus on when applying these resistance movements below are the following; tension created between the band and the force production that you’re creating, don’t overdo it, or bounce in the stretch. This will cause damage and injuries. If you cannot replicate the movement, follow the cues to the point where you can feel the desired stimulus. Breathe, slightly deeper on the exhale, and then reset. The goal is to actively increase your range of motion, stretching positions, and depth of stretch on an ongoing basis. Slow and steady.
In this short clip, we walk you through proper technique, execution, and explain the benefits of the following movements.
